MASSAGE THERAPY
What is Massage Therapy? It is the practice of applying pressure, tension, motion, or vibration to the soft tissues and energy systems of the body. Massage can be applied to parts of the body or the whole body, to aid the process of injury healing, relieves psychological stress, manage pain, and improve circulation. When massage is used for it’s physiological, mental, and mechanical benefits it is termed “therapeutic massage”. This combination of science and art provides a relaxing experience by artistic hand strokes on the body to rejuvenate the mind and body. It is a widely accepted part of many cultures, and is sometimes referred to as “Bodywork”. New York State requires Massage Therapists to be licensed.
How do I dress for a Massage? Depending on the type of massage, clients either undress to their level of comfort or can remain fully clothed during a session. The client’s privacy is always respected.
Are there different types of Massage Therapy/Bodywork? Yes, some modalities include Deep tissue manipulation, Swedish/therapeutic Massage, Myofascial Release, Craniosacral Therapy, Shiatsu, and various forms of energetic techniques.
